I keep finding odds and end photos on my computer and I always say “I really need to get that blog post written and loaded”…..but I never get it done.  So I’ve decided to just post some pictures with some explanation.  They will be totally unrelated…but that’s OK with me!

Here goes…

Last year, during the whole cancer business, one of my 8th grade girls brought me a breast cancer awareness bracelet….

I thought it was incredibly kind.  She also bought herself one so that she could show her support.  Wow!  I have pretty amazing students!  Kylie moved to Las Vegas a few weeks after she gave me the bracelet but now every time I wear the bracelet I will think of her.  (yes, I am the pasty white arm on the left!  She was also about a foot taller than me too!)

In July, (I think), Mom, my sister and my niece got together to make jewelry.  We try to do this at least once a summer because we all love to do it!  So here’s our creations!

we always make such a mess!  LOLOL

Mr. Elroy makes me laugh….here are some of my favorite pictures of him.  Some were taken with my phone so they aren’t so good….

He often sleeps like this…and in the middle of whatever I’m working on…..and I have to check to see if he’s still breathing because he looks dead…..

2 different naps ….2 different days…..same old pose….

One night….while working at my computer desk, it got kinda hot….so I turned on the fan….and this is where he put himself….between me and the fan…and again, laid right on top of the paperwork I was working on…..crazy boy cat!

I LOVE cat paws…..these are Goldie’s….and they are HUGE!

I knitted this little sweater for Kaylore….It actually fits her perfectly and I think it’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen….if I do say so myself!!!!

This summer I was invaded by tiny ants…..I planned an ant massacre…..and it worked!!!  You can find anything on the internet!!!

I helped JW with his back to school backpack by embroidering his name on it……

It came with a wallet and everything…..and I think he liked it just fine!

It’s hard to believe he’s in 1st grade already!  Wow!!!

Ok….I think I’m all caught up….Oh Wait!  I almost forgot to celebrate!

Last week I went in for my yearly mammogram (and the first one since my diagnosis and surgery) and I’m proud to announce that ALL IS GOOD!!!  No reason for extra pictures, or procedures!  I’m so very extremely thankful!

Until next time!

It seems forever since I’ve been on this blog.  I’m hoping since summer has arrived I’ll be more diligent and creative…..I’m ready!

Years ago I began an investment in a cancer insurance policy……and it ended up paying BIG….so….after I got myself out of some debt, put some in an investment acct and combined it with my national board money and my tax refund….I’m treating myself!

My first ‘treat’?!?!?  A new sewer line in the back yard…What ?!?!?!  you don’t think a sewer line is a treat?  Well…..NOW I won’t have to worry about having the line cleaned out…on a weekend….when the washing machine is full of wet laundry,…..believe me….it’s a treat!

Next, I decided the cheap rug in the living room HAD TO GO!!!!!  It was a cheap one from Walmart and it was gross, the wrong color, wouldn’t lay flat and was just down right UGLY!  But not anymore!  I had a piece of carpeting bound and put carpet pad underneath it and WOW!!!!  It’s like walking on a cloud!

I took this picture with my phone….it’s not really purple….it’s a lovely beige….

My friend Susan and I Hauled it home in my car….and there was even room for her to ride inside the car too!  LOLOL

There are more treats to come….I’ll keep you posted!  🙂

Harvest has begun in earnest in Kingfisher.  I took this pic with my phone from my car….It’s not my family but it sure was pretty as I was driving by….

Dad is really missing being in the middle of harvest this year.  He had a stroke in March that affected his vision….by brother took away his combine license.  I’m just glad he’s OK with it.

J.W. is growing like a weed…..here’s what it looks like to be 7 years old….

He has his summer haircut….the whole baseball team has the same cut….boys….LOLOL

I have started knitting again….and I’m in love with these mittens…

I see many variations of these on my needles this summer!

Goldie kept me company while I was knitting…

And Elroy tried to help….until he fell asleep while trying to play with the yarn…..such a man! LOLOL

Rusty was not thrilled with his last bath….can you tell?!?!?

I am finally beginning to feel better.  It’s one of those things where you don’t know how bad you feel until you feel better!?!?!?  It has taken MUCH longer than I expected to get my energy back.  I’m actually beginning to feel like my OLD self again!  It’s a good feeling!  Each year I write a handwritten note to each of my 8th grade students….tell them how much I appreciate them and love them…..When I handed them out….I cried….because I feel like I cheated them by being gone so much and feeling like crap the days I was there most of the time.  They were SO sweet…and I got LOTS of hugs that day.  Sometimes middle school kids are awesome!  I’m ready for the summer to have the time to continue getting stronger.  But I’m also ready to begin a new school year…without the weight of cancer on my heart and mind.

Happy Summer!!!

And all I did was strip wall paper and paint!  But it felt like I created something as big as ….hmmmm….at LEAST a country! : )

So here’s the scoop….

The wallpaper I added in the 1990s was totally out of date…It looked like this….

Here’s the wallpaper in the hallway….striped paisley stuff that I never really liked……VERY glad it’s gone.

Here are the two layers from the living room…

I particularly like the bottom layer of an Italian villa…..complete with fountain….

These 3 layers came off rather easily in the living room….

Because of a lovely coat of paint on the old wallboard…..ahh…I got LUCKY!

But….the luck ended in the hallway and entryway….ugh!

Underneath the ugly striped wallpaper I put up was…..

more stripes…..and this lovely…umm….stuff…

WHAT were they thinking?????? (BTW – my garage is painted the same pink as that little flower!)

Goodbye wallpaper of eras gone by…..

and then finally….c1958 wallboard……with the finest taping job I’ve seen in a while!  nice smooth walls!

The lady at the paint store where I bought my supplies told me I would have to texture the walls after stripping the wallpaper….because I would gouge the wallboard so badly.  I told her I didn’t want texture because there wasn’t any in my house…she smirked and walked off and thought to herself…that lady (me) is CRAZY!  Little did she know that her comment was all the challenge I needed to be sure I didn’t scar the wallboard.  And I DID prove her wrong!  (I feel so superior…is that wrong!?!?!?)

I found a few surprises along the way….

The outlet where the ONE phone line was brought into the house….

A fist sized hole in the entryway…

And a sorry looking patch job (which I assume was from a demolished piece of wall board)  They attached the spackle to the old wallpaper so when the wallpaper went…so did the spackle.  Had to start over…and I gained a WHOLE new appreciation for those guys who cover the seams on wallboard…geez…they should probably be paid more!

Pete came over and helped me patch the holes and switch out some light switches….

The cats seemed unfazed by the whole business and took advantage of the buffet’s temporary home in the kitchen…next to the windows….

(sorry for the blurry pictures….must have been the wrong setting on my camera!)

Then came the primer coat…

And then the paint….Ahhhhhh….SO much better!  The paint is an interesting color.  Not what I had first invisioned but I have come to LOVE it!

In some light, it looks green, in others it looks gray and sometimes it has a hint of brown…..but it fits into my home nicely!

I began on a Monday and ended on the following Monday….I consider that pretty good progress for an old lady!

They I started re-decorating things….

Packed away the Nutcrackers for awhile….and moved the buttons off the buffet..

and cleared away some clutter off the piano…

It feels really good to get this huge project finished!

Next on the list (and beginning this weekend) is getting the trim painted….wish me luck!

……..died of heat stroke?……..been blown away by a tornado?………..packed in one of the many boxes of my belongings?…..asphyxiated on wool fumes?……kidnapped by Gypsy midgets and forced to perform trapeze acts in a circus?…..keeled over into a bush during boot camp?…….

Nah……just been super busy.  The end of school was more stressful than usual.  Along with end of year performances, grades, saying goodbye to the students….I had to pack my room…..that I’ve been in for over 15 years.  Well….I packed and packed and packed some more and little by little the custodians moved all my boxes of books, shelves, piano, desk and assorted cabinets…to the auditorium stage.  Yes, I’ll be having class on the stage but all in all it should turn out to be a good thing!  Check with me again in October and see if I’m still smiling.

With all the goings on at the end of the year, I just didn’t have the energy to get into the garden like I normally would so I’m sorta behind.  I need about one more morning and the front garden will be finished and mulched for the summer…..here’s a sneak peak from about a week ago….(yes, I’ve done more work since then…)

I’ve also been snapping a few pictures of the cats.  I cleared off the coffee table a couple of weeks ago to do something and the cats immediately considered it their “stage”….here are a few actions shots…

Fast asleep…

Elroy’s favorite sleeping position….

Fighting over who gets to sleep on the biggest piece of the paper bag they smushed earlier…..

Elroy has one rogue whisker….see it on his right side?……it’s as quirky as he is!  And yes, they look like this everyday!

Hopefully I will be updating more often with more pictures…..Happy Summer!

If you’ve ever seen the musical “Cats” you know about Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer (you can see the whole story  here) But this song is basically about 2 cats that go around the house wreaking havoc and looking innocent.

Here’s some of my favorite lyrics from that song….

Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer
We’re a notorious couple of cats
As knockabout clowns, quick-change comedians
Tight-rope walkers and acrobats

and:

And when you hear a dining room smash
Or up from the pantry there comes a loud crash
Or down from the library there comes a loud ping
From a vase that was commonly said to be Ming
The family will say: “Now which was which cat?
It was Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer!”
And there’s nothing at all to be done about that!

So I’m writing the sequel starring my very own Miss Goldilocks and Mr. Elroy.  They may not be twin cats but they sure can wreak the havoc around here.

One day I sat on the couch and looked up and noticed that things had been shifted around and were teetering on the very edged of the RV cabinet and in a few minutes I discovered why….

It seems that it is Miss Goldilocks’ favorite place to lounge….and these “things” got in her way…

Yesterday I came home to one of my favorite “piles of stuff” that had been “stored” on the ironing board had been dumped and scattered…..and I know this is one of Miss Goldilocks’ favorite places to hang out….

We often have NASCAR races through the house….haven’t figured out who actually wins and we have several sumo wrestling matches a week. (Mr. Elroy is kinda chubby)

Goldie used to be the one to steal my yarn as I was knitting with it and steal buttons out of the button jar in the living room.  I guess she’s moved from cat burglary to Home Interior Designing.  I wonder what’s next?

Don’t be fooled by this display of innocence!

Yes, it has become an annual event that we either get ice or blizzard in January and miss several days of school!  2011 was not going to be left out of this party so yesterday we received about 12″ of snow (but who really knows since all it did was blow around into giant, albeit beautiful, piles!

Here’s a timeline…sort of…..

This is about 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning…

Outside my front door (the garden ornament at the end of the house is about 2.5 feet tall….to give you some perspective) during the thick of the blizzard

Out the backdoor (same time)

Mother Nature’s Artwork on my window

But here’s what we did all warm and snug inside:

(please notice the Elroy’s point toes….dreaming of being a dancer?!?!?!?!)

While I was knitting on the couch….Goldie sat in my lap and bathed…Here’s her action shot!

Here it is about noon on Tuesday as the storm is nearing it’s end (at least for snow…winds howled all day!)

Later in the evening…outside my garage door!

Yes….that’s a 13″ snowdrift I have to dig out before I can get my car out!

and…..This morning, Wednesday, about 8 a.m.

Elroy snuck out and tested the snow… He didn’t like it  much..

But yes….That’s SUNSHINE!!!  …. even if it was 3 degrees outside!  BRRRRRR………

Another visitor…..very cold and brave…..I wish I had some food to give him!

So….another day at home….wonder what I’ll do today?

My good friends, Jeff and Wendy, just added a new baby to their family…and the tradition I started was to make each one a quilt.  This is the 7th one I’ve made for their family!!!!

Since I’m out of school for the holidays, I invited Mom down to help me make the quilt….and  yes it was a QUILT IN A DAY kind of day.

We started with this pattern and using some fabric from my stash and buying ONLY 2 1/8 yards….we were able to get it done!  We had quite a factory going in my sewing room.

Goldie and I did the cutting and ironing..

While Mom and Elroy took care of the sewing…

He was VERY interested in the sewing machine!

But soon tired of the whole business…

Quilt top finished!

I started with the solid color from my stash so I had to find something that matched it and came across the fish…and it was perfect!

The fun began again when we were layering the quilt together….

Goldie was holding down her side…so nice of her to help!

and now…one very cute quilt (this pic shows the actual colors much better!)

Don’t you wish you were a going under the sea with little baby Malachi?

Welcome to the world, Baby!
