Every city, large or small, has it’s share of controversy. It usually involves politicians and schools. (hard to believe they have so much in common.) Our fair city is certainly not immune to these problems.
Most recently (on the education side of things anyway, the political side would be boring and take up way to much room) the superintendent of the OKC schools has been in hot water over some financial doings and in turn has resigned……with perks. (I don’t teach in this district)
This, of course, set our Peter B. into orbit. So, he used his right of free speech and wrote a letter to the editor of our local newspaper:
Way to go, Petey!
The newspaper did their share of editing the letter and left out my favorite part (the last sentence). So here it is in it’s entirety. He also gets his dig on the political shenanigans as of late. A real 2-for-1 letter.
Greetings,
I found it interesting that the Oklahoma City School District is paying out over $300,000 to a guy who doesn’t seem to understand the ethics involved in the reimbursement of expenses. Especially when, in the same issue of the newspaper, the state is trying to figure out how to raise teacher’s salaries to the area average. There is a lot wrong with this picture. If any other employee of the school district turned in improper expenses they would probably just be fired. What makes this person different? Why does he have to be paid to go away when he should be wending his way through the District disciplinary procedures? I have difficulty understanding how this high-powered school administrator does not understand the difference between employment related and personal expenses. Then he adopts the politician stance of blaming it on unnamed administrative personnel. Then you add in the situation where a number of state legislators seem to have difficulty filing their state income tax returns. Then we wonder why things are the way they are.DUHHH! We let it happen.
Cordially,
Peter B. Sawin
It is nice to be noticed, sort of!
